Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) is an offshore facility floating above a natural gas field. Since the storage at these terminals is limited, the gas is regularly transferred to LNG carriers using cryogenic loading arms that can tolerate a temperature of up to -163°C (- 261.4 F). Currently, there are three Ship-to-Ship (STS) LNG transfer methods: side-by-side, tandem, and parallel positioning. In STS, two vessels are brought alongside one another to allow the LNG carrier to moor itself to the FLNG and offload the cargo. A tandem offloading system connects the bow of a shuttle LNG carrier to the stern of an LNG production vessel. Parallel positioning is similar to a tandem system but the FLNG and the LNG carrier are positioned parallel to one another.
