Athletes and weightlifters can develop bruises after engaging in strenuous exercise. These deep bruises are a result of tiny blood vessel tears that occur beneath the skin. An individual with a bleeding disorder is more likely to experience bleeding and bruising, either spontaneously or as a result of trauma or surgery. The severe form of hemophilia A affects 60% to 70% of patients, while the moderate form affects 15%. The other individuals have a mild hemophilia.
